Following the interest in Montreal's newly-installed parking meters, I would like to propose a challenge to hackers and wireless gurus in and around the area:
We've all seen the new digital parking meters and pay stations around downtown.
Here are the facts we know:
- A driver parks his vehicle in any available space, memorizes [bad user interface design, as pointed out by ebilodeau] the parking space number and goes to the nearest terminal to pay for the required time

In your wish list you want
In your wish list you want to be able to spot an empty space and stay there forever, albeit somehow billed for the time.
If you can stay there forever, what makes you think the previous guy will ever leave? I once heard a persuasive argument that the invention of the parking meter made cities and cars (together) possible by enforcing a maximum parking time to keep things moving. Would you like to run a retail business where there is no short term parking? (Would you want to live in a city where there are no retail businesses?)
